Booky Goodness

Today’s post brought me a postcard from Borders, telling me that my long-awaited special order book had arrived. Within half an hour I was on a bus into the city to pick it up. And now I have my very own copy of Crazy Aunt Purl’s Drunk, Divorced and Covered in Cat Hair! Hooray! I’ve been hanging out for this book since I first heard it was coming out (April 23rd, apparently - it seemed longer), and now I have it, for my very own! So excited. Laurie Perrie is one of my heroes, up there with Dr Karl & Cordelia Vorkosigan (she’s fictional, but I think she still counts). She’s an awesome lady, so strong and funny. And her writing, while definitely not what they teach in writing school, is so good at bringing out the emotion. Her blog (and book, so far!) regularly make me laugh and laugh, and the Story of Roy made me cry and cry (seriously, get tissues before you follow this link). I wish I could write stuff like that…

Here is a picture of the book:

I’m happy to lend it to interested people, if you promise to look after it nicely.

While I was in the city I went to the Oxfam shop, which is a cool little shop full of the niftiest stuff, and all Fair Trade, etc. They had a bunch of Christmas stuff, including a cute little nativity-scene-in-a-gourd. I like to have a nativity scene, even though I’m not at all religious, because y’know, that is the point of the day. So now I have one hanging on my tree…

(The focus is a bit off, but you get the idea :P)

Cordelia Vorkosigan totally counts. How many people consider super/spider/bat/… man as their hero? Heaps!
