My tax return came in today’s post. Hooray, I am saved from a pretty poverty-stricken Christmas (or digging into my savings). My job is casual, so I have to put in timesheets, and when I forget I don’t get money till after I remember (thanks to our beaurocracy-laded uni, not till four weeks after I remember - which puts my last 6-weeks’ worth of pay arriving after Christmas!). My job is also seasonal - in semester I’m really busy, and out of semester I have heaps of free time but no money. Well, no money apart from what Centrelink deigns to give me, and you’ve all heard stories about them… I like the student lifestyle and all - the constant change and learning, the people, the irregular hours, the long holidays (:P)… But it’d be nice not to have to worry about money for a change… But enough moaning - here’s a funny story:
I got money out from the ATM on friday and got a receipt/statement while I was there. I moved away so that the next guy could get to the machine, then looked at the balance - eep, $700!
me: “Ouch!”
guy: *turning around* “Are you ok?”
me: “Yeah, it’s just my bank balance…” *sad face*
Those darned bank-balances, you’ve gotta keep your eye on ‘em! Isn’t it fun to be a poor student?

Most people wouldn’t agree with that title, but as a student I’m not one of them. Hurray for the tax man!
