OMG, Weekend!

On friday I handed in my last assessment of the semester. This semester has been a particularly crazy one - the first half packed full of outreach stuff, and the second half packed full of catching-up. The last month has been particularly bad, because it was all of the biggest and most important assignments, and I was tired and stressed and grumpy and all I wanted was for it to just be over!

And so when it finally was all over, I decided to celebrate with a Weekend. I’ve not had a real weekend in a while. I don’t do a lot of work on weekends, but I’m always supposed to be doing work, and it kind of ruins the `weekendness’ of the weekend.

Of course, there’s still a whole heap of stuff I should be doing - emailing people, tidying my room, cleaning the toilet, working on sewing projects that are Very Very Late, organising next year’s mentoring, documenting outreach stuff, etc, etc, etc. But I decided to have my Weekend first. This weekend, I am not doing any of the things that I feel I should be doing - only the things I want to do.

What sort of things are these? Well…

I went to Bunnings, on the spur of the moment, in bare feet, to buy duct tape with which to make a dress form, like this one… (howto here)

I used my Jesters Frequent Pier card, which I’ve been saving for a special occasion, to get a free lunch.

I printed out a pattern for a skirt & started cutting and taping it. The skirt is one of those projects which have to wait for the Late Projects to be finished - but this rule is being ignored on the Weekend!

I didn’t do any work on tidying my room, even though it really really needs it:

What A Mess…

Nor did I clean the toilet, even though it really needs it (but I won’t give you a picture of that one :p Maybe after I’ve cleaned it…)

I stayed in bed till 10:30 this morning, even though I could hear dish-washing happening in the kitchen. And when I did get up, I made my tea and went off to cut & sticky-tape instead of helping. Because it’s my Weekend.

I ate a chocolate bar for breakfast, and made a garlic-butter-and-pita-bread thing for lunch using a whole clove of garlic and stinking up the house.

I’m still in my pajamas at 3:46 PM, and plan to remain so in spite of someone coming over tonight.

And my Weekend will leak over into Monday a little bit, when I go to the shops and buy all the foods that I like - my prefered bread, my prefered cheese, my prefered lettuce, and some margarine so that people stop using the cooking butter instead.

But apart from that, on Monday I’m going to start up doing the things I should be doing again. But I plan to schedule in a few more Weekends, because I’ve realised in the last few days just how much I need them. Yay for weekends!
